There are several reasons one might use a yoga towel in addition to a yoga mat. For starters, it’s much easier to clean a towel than a mat since it can be washed just like any other towel. The advantage of a yoga towel over ordinary towels is in size and design. If you are in a class, your towel needs to be the size of your mat so that you aren’t taking more than your share of space, but more importantly, to prevent slipping. The design of a yoga towel should include a very absorbent non-slip fabric which is particularly helpful during hot yoga practices. Some towels will even have gripper feet on one side. Although not ideal, a good yoga towel can be used as a yoga mat if one is not available. If you practice yoga often, you’ll probably want to have more than one.
