Committing to Yoga – a beginner

Yoga - MeditationYoga Towel and Supplies has agreed to let me write about my yoga journey. My previous yoga experience is extremely limited. I have attended one yoga class at a health club a few years back. Prior to that, I had spent a few months where I was fairly regular about doing Rodney Yee’s A.M. Yoga. Although a very mild 20 minutes of yoga, I will say that I enjoyed it. So why now and why make a public commitment? As I have watched the health of my parent deteriorate as hit their 70′s, I started wondering if there is any way to make an impact on my future health. There are no guarantees in this life, but it surely can’t hurt to try and probably it will even impact my life in my 40′s. So eating right, exercising and meditation are the things I’m committing to do starting now! Although I take fairly good care of myself, these will be big changes for me.

I’m not planning to take any classes at this point. I started today with a 20 minute yoga workout on an iPad app. It’s called Daily Yoga and I thought it really did a good job of show the poses and moving through the workout. I will say that I feel good, but my body can tell I had a little workout. I also did a Kirtan Kriya meditation that lasts about 13 minutes. My new eating habits will attempt to follow an anti-inflammatory program similar to that discussed in Dr. Andrew Weill’s Healthy Aging.

If you had any advice, I welcome your suggestions. Val
